My name is Jon, and at WS my username was "mlajrjr". I hope we can continue friendships and sharing photos, best wishes to all, Ute. I am from Germany and landscape, nature, wildflowers villages towns and vacation places and Kimi our dog and my surroundings are my themes of photography. I joined Webshots in 2002 and found lots of friends over the years.
I was also happy to find so many Webshots members here. my name is Ute, at Webshots my names was "utehempel" and "germancute". Glad to see Flickr is trying to rekindle the original Webshots gang. No organizational tools, no imbedded calendar on the screen, it can't even find your default webshots directory you had your old pictures in, I had to move them to my SSD drive with limited storage space just so the program could see them. Why couldn't they just keep the IP of webshots and keep the original program.
I only had 1 friend, but many viewed the pictures I posted. I have been using Webshots since they began but became a member back in 2003. Membership Level: Webshots Premium Membership, billed yearly Have to say I'm disappointed with the change, and I have to check out what's going on, as one of my computers updated to the new software. I'm r_kriegar Generally used the site as photo storage, and sharing with my relatives. It was a honor to be featured and I will greatly miss what was a wonderful website. Webshots was the platform that launched my photography from a hobby to a career. There were over a million views and over 120,000 downloads, 32 featured albums or photo of the days. Most of my subject matter focused on Appalachia but there were other places too. I had 36 photo albums mostly in scenery and nature. I was queensknightjbh and a member of the WS community for over ten years. You might also be interested in the "changemywallpaper" website. Hi old friends and new ones! Tirza I am learning to be a Flickr member, and my way in this community. I live in Los Angeles CA, and love taking pictures of my travels in CA and elsewhere in the world when I am able to go on vacation. I am glad to join the community here, I can recognize some of the names. I have won several POTDs and albums, and enjoyed the community comments, and commenting on others pics. I loved the interactions, the challenges, POTD etc. WS was a great place for me, and my photography. Like everyone else here, I am very disappointed with the change. Hi, I am Tirza was tirza_h on WS since who knows when, many years. Raceref (Ian) edited this topic 111 months ago. I joined Flickr in 2006 but did little with my account as I preferred the WS site to satisfy friends and family requests to see photos of trips which my wife and I have taken. I joined WS in Feb 2002 and became a premium member 9 months later.
I'm Ian with a WS and Flickr nom de plume of raceref (race ref). Not su much difference, I hope to find more friends here, let me know! I was on WS myste, since 1999.and now I am myste2. Friendster is now a video gaming service, MySpace is music streaming.Glad to be back in a group like the community on WS. It's not a stretch to imagine a day when all our words and images hosted on these services are removed as the companies collapse or morph. Who know what Instagram or Twitter or Facebook will be like in 7 years, or in 15 years. Seven years ago, Webshots was useful and important. While Webshots may not exactly be the most relevant service to many of us, the fact that it's wiping out so much user data is telling to what the future may hold. They're the thing people worry about the most: The family photo album is the thing you grab when you run out of your burning house. Losing phone contacts, term papers, business presentations, and all our other digital debris is plenty annoying, but they don't have the same impact as losing photos. Years of people’s photos - baby pictures, college parties - are going to disappear because of corporate restructuring. This is what link rot looks like, and with personal photos, it’s a little more frustrating than a Geocities fan page disappearing.
